August - Nature Center outing

Tonite, we went on a nature hike, but not before our den leader had us a take a quiz about birds. We all did really well, and got to mark off another elective in our books.
Before starting our Hike, our den leader pointed out some poison ivy and told us a lot about it... here is a picture of Poison Ivy.

then we were off on our hike. To make things more interesting, we would stop at different trees and see if we could find out what kind of tree it was... Our den leader had printed out lots of pictures to compare them too, and we had a lot of fun trying to compare leaves to the booklet to identify the trees, here are some of the ones we seen
We were only on our hike for about 45 minutes, but it was a lot of fun. We did a living circle to end our meeting, reciting the Law of the pack....
The Cub Scout follows Akela.
The Cub Scout helps the pack go.
The pack helps the Cub Scout grow.
The Cub Scout gives goodwill.

Pack Outing - August

Here is Mike I, our Big guy on campus.. our Pack Leader
Here are two of our planners: Kari S & Kellie P.... On Saturday, we had a pack picnic.
There was lots of food, hamburgers, hotdogs, macaroni salad, potato salad, and tons of deserts (special thanks to Bryan for cookin all those burgers)
The kids enjoyed the park, there was a great play structer, but the real fun started when we started playing games....

There was a "Grape Relay" for this, you had to hold a grape on a spoon, and walk a good distance, and then hand off the spoon and the grape the next person in line... if you dropped your grape, you had to start over. (grrrr)

There was a three legged race, everyone loved that...
Then, they had a water balloon toss... this was going well till the adults got ahold of the water balloons, I think we all ended up wetter than the kids... NO FAIR.....
Then Bryan handed out water guns to all the kids, this started the free for all... kids were being dunked in the "ice water", water coolers were being dumped over the adults heads, as well as water bottles.... needless to say, no body noticed it was a really really hot day... Was a great time...
Then den dads had the kids all play a nice game of soccer.... hey, isnt that an elective... :)
Was a great time... and most of our den showed up... Good job guys.
Here is Tom; Zach S; and Leo in the background

August - Our Flag

For this week's meeting, we learned about the American Flag.
We also learned some interesting facts about the Michigan flag.
Of course we took some time for snack, and to discuss the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Everyone received a flag, and was trying really hard to make sure the wind did not knock it on the ground.
We praciticed folding the flag as well, we all had a chance to particpate.
Special recognition goes out to Colin this week. He is one of our den's newest members, and just one month into scouting, has fulfilled all the requirements to acheive his Bobcat Ranking. The fist step in becoming a scout. Now, he can focus his time on earning Wolf with the rest of the den.
Great Job Colin
